Diet and fitness go hand in hand; the more calories you burn through doing activities the more weight you will lose. If you are in energy balance your calories in (food and drink) will equal your calories out. You probably need to lose weight if you are reading this website and therefore require a deficit. Eat less - move more.
Calories expended are not just through exercise but everyday activities and bodily functions e.g. lung, heart and kidney function. It is for this reason that you should weigh yourself first thing in the morning. You have expended calories whilst sleeping but consumed nothing for 7 to 10 hours.
