GO FOR IT - JOIN A GYM, GO TO GOLF, DANCE CLASS ETC.
Diet and exercise are a duet; the more calories you burn through doing activities the more weight you will lose. If you are in energy balance your calories in (food and drink) will equal your calories out. You probably need to lose weight if you are reading this website and therefore require a deficit. Eat less - move more.
Calories expended are not just through exercise but everyday activities and bodily functions e.g. lung and kidney function. It is for this reason that you should weigh yourself first thing in the morning. You have expended calories whilst sleeping but consumed nothing for 7 to 10 hours. With the new term starting soon could you fit an exercise class into your schedule?
Calories burned - for a person weighing 55 kilos and exercising for 30 minutes –
Aerobic dance 204
Badminton 180
Basketball 155
Bicycling 240
Dancing 65
Golfing 120
Hiking 185
Running 396
Rowing machine 215
Swimming 144
Waterskiing 192

You may be surprised to see how many calories are used doing everyday chores (55 kilo person/½ hour), the bigger you are the more calories you burn, therefore large people lose weight more quickly. Take every chance to be active.

Perhaps you feel that you have no time to exercise, remember you sleep and work approximately 8 hours, which leaves 8 hours. Exercise strengthens the heart, lungs and muscles as well as improving the waistline. Try and buddy up with a friend/partner to encourage each other. There are many worthwhile clubs to join e.g. the ramblers, golf clubs and sailing clubs. Anaerobic exercise (not using oxygen) is intense and burns up lots of calories e.g.weight lifting.
